Social events for meeting participants

All participants (+ accompanying partners) are kindly invited to join us at the social events, taking place before/after the meeting presentations. Following activities will be organised:

CANCELLED - Tour to Dessau on Sunday 20 May, from 8:30 - 17:30

Tour to the Bauhaus, Meisterhäuser and the Main-Building of the German Federal Environment Agency (UBA) in Dessau

In Dessau is located the main centre of the German Federal Environment Agency (UBA) and  the world heritage site of the Bauhaus and the Meisterhäuser.

This tour starts in the UBA headquarters, an office building, where state of the art resource and energy saving techniques are incorporated. After a welcome from the UBA Vice-president and a guided tour, highlighting the architectural award winning areas, you will have a light lunch in the atrium to enjoy the unique atmosphere of the building. The highlight of the day will be a tour of the Bauhaus and the Meisterhäuser in the afternoon. Founded by Walter Gropius, the Bauhaus in Dessau is now a UNESCO cultural heritage site. The Bauhaus arts and crafts style became one of the most influential in modernist architecture and modern design. The Bauhaus had a profound influence upon subsequent developments in art, architecture, graphic design, interior design, industrial design, and typography. Welcome reception on Sunday 20 May, starting at 20:00

Traditionnally, the welcome reception will take place after the opening ceremony. Place to be is the exhibit hall in the congress centre. This reception includes beer, wine, sodas and water. Admission is included in the registration fee; please indicate during registration if you will attend this event.

Student party on Tuesday 22 May, starting at 19:30

On Tuesdayevening, participants are invited at an exciting Beach & Club party. White sand, palm trees and party music are the motto of this Lifestyle City Beach. It is located on the water and directly next to the Hauptbahnhof. Check out the beachparty website.

Tickets (30€) should be booked in advance, they include bbq, 2 free drinks and an entertaining dance party. Conviviality and musical ambiance guaranteed!

Banquet on Wednesday 23 May, starting at 19:00

On Wednesday, attendees can enjoy a stylish evening with a seated banquet dinner. The event location is absolutely unique, in Berlin‘s City West, near the famous Kurfürstendamm. The building was recently renovated but still kept its originality since it has once been a waterworks. An exclusive event at an atmospheric location, this promises to be an evening to remember! Tour to UBA outdoor aquatic facility on Thursday 24 May, starting at 15:30

Visit to the field station and the artificial stream and pond system of the German Federal Environment Agency in Berlin

On Thursday afternoon, following  the closing ceremony, there will be a trip to the aquatic field station facilities of the German Federal Environment Agency  in the south of Berlin. A bus will pick up attendees from the front of the conference centre at 15:30 and return them to the conference centre at approximately 18:30. 

The field station houses large scale experimental facilities and includes an extensive  and technically sophisticated artificial indoor/outdoor pond and stream system –FSA .(http://www.umweltbundesamt.de/wasser-und-gewaesserschutz-e/fsa/index.htm), The site has its own own wells, lysimeters, river bank filtration units, and laboratories in which to carry out ecotoxicological studies related to the entire water cycle. It is one of the largest facilities of its kind in the world.

Excursion to BAM in Berlin on Thursday 24 May, starting at 15:30

Visit to the Department Materials and Environment of the BAM Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing in Berlin

On Thursday afternoon subsequent to the closing ceremony a bus will be waiting in front of the conference center and bring attendees to the headquarters of the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing in the south-west of Berlin. The Department Materials and Environment operates amongst others a modular pilot plant in small technical scale for processing and recycling of soil and waste materials and automated leaching devices for the assessment of contaminant transfer to groundwater. Furthermore, the department maintains a collection of reference organisms comprising bacteria, fungi, and insects such as termites and wood borers. These organisms are used for standard testings in materials deterioration and sold to industry and research facilities for such testings throughout the world.

Excursion to BAM in Aldershof on Thursday 24 May, starting at 15:30

 Visit to the Department Analytical Chemistry and Reference Materials and Division Thermochemical Materials Separation and Resource Recovery of the BAM Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing at Branch Adlershof

On Thursday afternoon subsequent to the closing ceremony a bus will be waiting in front of the conference center and bring attendees to the branch Adlershof of the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing in the south-east of Berlin. The Department Analytical Chemistry and Reference Materials provides information and advice with respect to all questions of reliability, trueness and precision of analytical methods, and to quality assurance and quality control in the chemical-analytical laboratory. Divisions 1.2 and 1.6 operate a facility for preparation of reference materials for the determination of organic and inorganic pollutants in soils, sediments and other solid matrices.

In Division 1.8 ImmunoAnalytics antibody-based analytical methods are developed, especially immunoassays (ELISA), tools to screen for emerging environmental pollutants like estrogen hormones (E1, E2, EE2), pharmaceuticals (sulfamethoxazole, carbamazepine) and anthropogenic markers (caffeine, coprostanol). Guided visit to the immunoassay laboratories as well as to the mass spectrometry lab (LC-MS/MS, Orbitrap Exactive).

Division 4.4 Thermochemical Materials Separation and Resource Recovery operates a semi-technical AC arc furnace and other experimental devices for thermochemical treatment of industrial residues.
